Welcome to my Holiday Home Tour! Along with my blogger friends we are partaking in a Walking in a Winter Wonderland Home Tour filled with tons of winter and Christmas inspo. Up before me was Adrienne from aehomestylelife and all the tours are linked at the end of this post.

Walking In A Winter Wonderland Home Tour-3

Let’s get started with the tour!

I started decorating early this year, so we could enjoy the festive touches all season long. As a result, my goal was to decorate with layers of winter mixed in with holiday, all while in my signature simple style. I started off with a neutral base and then added in some pops of colour which added that true holiday feel. Once Christmas is finished, some of the decor will remain as most of it is in keeping with the winter months to come.

Fireplace Mantel

My vision for the mantel this year was minimal winter wonderland and it turned out just as I planned using only three elements. It’s actually challenging to find greenery that’s not too heavy but still festive looking so I ended up using some stems that I found at HomeSense and I styled it over the mantel to give the look of garland without taking over the clean lines of the fireplace. For the stockings, we actually have traditional red and white plush ones with our names on them and these are the ones that will get filled with all the goodies but for the mantel it was finally time to get something neutral and I just love these ones from Amazon. To finish off the look, I filled it in with lots of white pillar candles from Ikea

Open Shelving

Next up are the open shelves by the fireplace. This area is always fun to style but especially for the holidays. I wanted to keep it minimal, so it could also last throughout the winter months. I added in some pops of red to tie in with the Christmas tree and overall it just speaks Christmas with subtle wintry vibes. The main focal point is this large mirror which opens up the space. The beautiful detailing speaks for itself and I didn’t want to mask it with much decor other than a wreath I reuse every year, tied with a red ribbon. I added in additional texture with wooden Christmas trees that have just a bit of shimmer which matches the garland on the mantel. These are fairly large in size which helps balance the grandness of the mirror. And then I just used candles, wooden garland beads, a faux fur throw and a framed reindeer to keep with the modern woodsy feel.

Staircase

As our home is open concept it’s important to consider all the spaces when decorating. As much as I do love fresh garland on the staircase it’s not always practical and it doesn’t last very long especially if you decorate early on. So this year I went for traditional pine garland from Home Hardware. It comes pre-lit and battery operated including a timer, so no cords! The green just pops against the neutral stairs and dark railing. To complete the look I tied some black ribbon which continued the modern Christmas vibe from the living space.

Living Room

Our Christmas tree is placed in our living room by the sliding doors to the back yard. It’s the perfect spot so you can see it from all areas on the first floor. We have a flocked tree which adds to the cozy romantic ambiance. The traditional white and red continues in the decor but overall it’s neutral and minimal. This year I added just a few new items to bring it all together which goes to show that you can make just a few changes that will completely transform a space and it doesn’t have to cost much at all. For a fun touch, I added the cheer throw pillow, switched out the wrapping paper which is Burberry inspired, and brought in natural elements from pinecones and walnuts which are found on the coffee table centerpiece with some candles.

Exterior & Mudroom

I also love adding a few holiday touches to our mudroom since it’s just off the living room and is a very busy room that deserves a little attention. I added a wreath with a red bow which can be switched out in between seasons, a throw, some presents and birch logs for some added texture. The front exterior of our home calls for minimal set up as we live in the city and we don’t want to block the entry so two large planters sit at the base of the steps. I love doing my own arrangements by simply mixing in fresh greens, birch logs, large pinecones, glitter ornaments and a set of twig lights. Plus, the continued appearance of fresh snow helps complete the look.

Simple Touches

The remaining spaces in the house just get a few simple Christmas touches. In the master bedroom I added in a small flocked tree, some faux fur pillows along with a classic throw from Hudson’s Bay for a cozy cabin feel. The diy candle centerpiece in the dining room is styled with some fresh greens and the shelving unit displays our gingerbread houses which is one of our special traditions and then of course the space gets filled with that amazing gingerbread scent!
