Hello and Happy 2022! I’m not much for new year’s resolutions and with everything going on in the world right now I think we all need to let go of any additional pressures. What I like to do instead is set the mood for the vibe I want for my mind, body and soul. Basically, I’m after peace and tranquility!
So I’ve summed up 3 simple things that I like to incorporate in my home for the new year, they’re budget friendly and offer a little inspo in this moody, wintry season. Plus they’re decor related so it’s another way to pretty up your home!
In fact, as I write this it’s currently -39°C/F here in Calgary, Alberta (yikes!) which means I’ll take anything that helps being cooped up indoors. This takes me straight into my first recommendation for new beginnings.

I’m a huge collector of cookbooks. For me, they’re more than just a summary of recipes. I have too many to count and they seriously bring me so much joy. So find that ‘thing’ that brings you a sense of inspiration. It’s also the hunt for me, since I’m a big bargain shopper. Whether it’s finding cookbooks at a thrift store, Home Sense or even the dollar store, I’m amazed at the finds out there! I also love gifting cookbooks, to kids too, and I’ll include a little note on the inside cover. So my two picks to start off the new year are Plant over Processed and Well + Good.
Both of these cookbooks offer recipes, tips and advice on better living and nourishing your body. I love that the Well + Good book is filled with recipes from 100 wellness experts so there’s definitely something for everyone! Plus they’re both beautiful books so I keep them on my coffee table, they make great decor pieces!

This new year is more like a deja vu of year’s past so we are laying low and keeping at home for the moment, which means we need a little boost of vitality and that’s where plants come in. I’m obsessed with plants and have them all throughout my home, in every single room. I’m also a huge gardener but until we thaw in about 5 months or so lol, my gardening is kept to indoors. Every New Year I like to take inventory of my plants and replace any that I need to. I recently added some jade, asparagus fern, pothos and birkin philodendron to the collection. I love finding new planters which is another excuse to go thrifting! Below is my favourite plant stand which was of course thrifted along with a pic of my bathroom plant shelfie, making it the perfect oasis within my home.

Finally, and this is my idea of a treat lol, is new bedding! There’s no better feeling than fresh clean sheets to make you feel relaxed and renewed. Since we’re not doing a ton of travelling at the moment, I sprung for a new duvet cover and I’ll just have to pretend we’re staying in a hotel for a little get away. I wanted something cozy that would fit all seasons and I came across this terrific buy from Ikea. It’s the Bergpalm stripe duvet cover and it’s $29.99 for the Queen (Canadian). Comes in different colours and is super soft! Here’s a look at the gray/stripe set I got.
There you have it, my top 3 picks to kickstart your year. I hope this new year brings you peace, health and happiness. We could all sure use it along with a little more positivity that’s for sure, all the best for 2022!
