DIY Textured Art

Textured Art DIY… I’ve been wanting to try this art project for a while now and our living room makeover was the perfect time to give it a go! I needed a large piece of art and I didn’t want to spend a ton since there’s a lot happening with this living room transformation!! You can follow along on the project progress over on my Instagram Simply Styled Inspo

Now back to the art DIY! I went searching for a large canvas and there wasn’t a great selection but I finally found the ‘one’ at a thrift store. It was not the cutest print to say the least lol, but it was going to get covered anyways! Aside from the canvas, all you need for this project is paint and drywall compound, that’s it!

You may already have an old canvas lying around that would be perfect for this. Since I was looking for a specific size, I had to work with the colours on this thrifted print. It required a few coats of white paint, I just used regular white paint and rolled it on and it adhered with no problem!

Once it was completely dry, it was time for the fun part! Put on your fave tunes! Using a trowel, I slapped on a big glob of the drywall compound and just continued on layering!! The trick is not to overthink it and just go with it. The more texture the better. It will take time to dry especially with the thick layers of compound. You can always come back to it later, and add more if needed.

I absolutely love the minimal look and clean lines of this DIY art. You could also paint over the compound but I like the organic feel of it. This canvas could be mounted as is, but we’ll be making a beautiful white oak frame. So stay tuned for that DIY as well!!

Give this textured art DIY a try! It’s quick, simple and easy, not to mention budget friendly.
