DIY Framed Chalkboard

With back to school I was determined to come up with ideas to improve our routine and let’s face it, a lot of time is spent trying to figure out what’s for dinner and surfing through the fridge for ingredients. I had this empty space by the side of the kitchen and so a giant chalkboard was the perfect solution to help streamline our meal planning.

The board is made out of two parts. The board itself is mdf and the frame is white oak which matches our floors. I wanted this chalkboard to be as large as possible, the measurements here are 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide. Below are a few picks of the board and frame. We finished it off with chalkboard paint and used three coats in total.

What I love most is that this makes for a great visual for the entire family. Typically I include our weekly menu, a quote and our grocery list. This really forces me to be disciplined with meal planning which I try to do on the weekends when prepping for my big grocery shop. These meals also account for leftovers which then takes care of lunches for the most part.

This chalkboard can be used for to do lists, weekly appointments and important reminders, but it’s also fun to change up over the holidays. I recently got into the fall mood and had fun with some chalkboard art, which makes for inexpensive and instant decor!
