As with every holiday, my favourite thing to style and decorate is the table setting. Bringing in natural elements is a reminder of the season that we’re in and it always challenges me to not only keep things as simple as possible but to incorporate items I already own. This Christmas I did finally give in and I purchased a new set of gold flatware which will be used all year round. I just love the glam that it adds to the place setting and they were a great Amazon find. For this look I wanted to use white linen napkins, white dinnerware, lots of tea lights and fresh greens and have it all anchored by a touch of black.
The centerpiece I went with was truly inexpensive, here’s the breakdown: kraft paper as the base for the runner, fresh greens were $7 from the grocery store, the tea light containers were reused from store bought dessert and the red berries were from a single branch from the dollar store. I clipped the berries from the stem and spread them along the centre of the greens.
Now for the fun part, I wanted to include a message on the runner since I was using kraft paper. This is where you can get creative and change it up for any holiday. Be sure to leave lots of extra room at the end of the roll of paper so it drapes nicely at the end of the table, really adding to the rustic look and feel of the tablescape.
For the final details on the place setting, I wanted to use something organic and simple so I went with a cinnamon stick wrapped in the same black ribbon that I’ve been using all throughout my Christmas decor this year. I love the clean look against the black plates and it also adds a festive scent. The very last thing to add was a name tag and I went for a twist this time. Instead of the usual name card I used a plain white gift card and tied it to the wine glass so that it also serves as a wine tag to avoid any drink mix ups.
