San Francisco, California
A trip down the coast to California has been a major bucket list item of ours for years. Now that we’re living on the west coast it was the perfect time to take advantage and take on this epic road trip! We did the entire trip in ten days so to save on some of the driving we flew from Calgary to San Francisco and so began the road trip!Like all cities we dream of visiting, it’s always different and surprising to actually be there in person. With only two days to see San Francisco, we packed in a ton and it really was one of my favourite parts of the entire trip. We stayed right downtown so all the sights were easy to access and it gave us a chance to just walk around and experience the restaurants and all that this vibrant city has to offer.
Our San Francisco itinerary included a stop at the amazing Boudin cafe www.boudinbakery.com at Fisherman’s Wharf where we took in the views of Alcatraz and checked out all of the shops and stalls. Not too far from there was Ghirardelli Square, the original site of the chocolate factory dating back to 1893. Then our walking tour really began and we made our way up the famous steep streets taking in the beautiful views and cable car sights until we made it to Lombard Street, known as the most crooked street in the world with its eight sharp turns. Of course this trip would not be complete without visiting Alamo Square and the Painted Ladies and last but not least the incredible Golden Gate Bridge. One thing I did not know about San Francisco was that even in the summer, when we visited, it can be quite chilly and foggy which is definitely something to take into account when planning ahead. All in all, an amazing city with so much to see and do. Can’t wait to go back someday!
