Christmas Inspiration, from last year

Can’t believe we’re wrapping up the month of October, which only means one thing! Yes I’m saying it… Christmas is around the corner and I’m recapping all of my holiday decor from last year. It’s jam packed with simple DIY’s, unique ideas, my signature neutral decor and just tons of inspiration. Best of all, it’s super budget friendly.

Enjoy the tour and happy holiday planning! xx

Starting off with this darling little Christmas village. It was one of my favourite’s from last year. And would you believe these little DIY houses are from the dollar store! They are so easy to assemble, no glue required, they just snap together. They are sold separately, so I just picked a few different ones to switch up the variety and and then added flameless tea lights along with led lights in behind for the prettiest glow. I also mixed in some mini white bottle brush trees to fill in. This is my modern take on the Christmas village. You could definitely paint out the houses, which I might end up doing but I really loved the simple natural scandi look, they’re just adorable.

Next up, this DIY wreath. Take a basic plain wreath, this one is from Home Hardware. I also used some of their dried florals for this. Simply arrange the pinecones and dried stems around the wreath and fill in with my favourite go to holiday decor accent – dried oranges. Makes for such a pretty non traditional look that can last all season, well after Christmas. Pictured below are these beautiful mercury Christmas trees that light up (tip: check your garden centres for unique pieces). With just a few items, this little corner was easily transformed by creating a simple vignette.

And moving on to what is probably my favourite place to decorate, the fireplace. Our fireplace is simple and modern and I don’t like to distract from the beautiful clean lines. My decor hack for this set up is to use greenery stems and simply arrange over the mantel. I then add pretty taper candles like these unique sage green ones and use my thrifted brass candle holders. For the stockings, I layer in simple bead garland and my tip is to customize the look by adding some ribbon, here I used some lace ribbon to tie in with the knit stockings. Lastly, I choose some holiday art for the TV (there are so many options) and I change it up over the holiday season but it really looks like beautiful art hanging over the fireplace. Of course, baskets filled with cozy blankets, faux fur cushions and more bottle brush trees are a must!

Here’s a look at the bedroom all decked out for the holidays. I don’t actually decorate the entire house but the bedroom is such a fun spot to layer in some cozy touches, I’ve gone for more of a cozy cabin feel which again can last all season long, which is important given our extra long winters here. We need all the cozy vibes!! So I simply added some leftover greenery over the bed and picture frame, my favourite Bay throw, cozy pillows and the cutest little tree. I also like to display pretty wrapped Christmas presents all throughout the house (full disclosure- they may be faux presents lol). They really do make for the easiest inexpensive decor!

A few more decorative elements are sprinkled throughout the kitchen and dining room. More leftover greenery added to the dining table with a set of gold Christmas tree candles. And if you can tell by now, I’m obsessed with wreaths. The trick is to use different textures, above the stove I have a feathered wreath tied with red ribbon. On the kitchen counter I added cookie jars with fake snow, green bottle brush trees and faux tea lights.

As for the staircase, I like to change it up every year! With the popularity of pampas grass, I decided to use the stems to create a garland on the banister. It was so easy and I just mixed in more twinkle lights and some boho stars hanging from the beaded garland. The result: a very clean wintery look with all the scandi vibes!

Here’s a final look at the living room including our DIY cabinet from last year which I dressed with more greenery and golden sparkly trees.

That concludes the Christmas tour and wrap up of holiday inspo.
