Fall Tablescape 2019
Table design and place settings are some of the things I enjoy styling the most and my favourite would be a fall tablescape. I would say with every design I like to include natural elements which means bringing the outside in and working with pieces from around the house along with thrifted finds. A mix of high and low makes for a beautiful set up without breaking the budget. It’s a chance to be resourceful and creative.
For this year’s fall tablescape I went for a very simple, rustic feel. Our neighbourhood is covered in beautiful crap apple trees so I foraged and dried a few clippings for the centrepiece and filled it in with fresh apples perfectly in season this time of year. The candlesticks were a thrifted find from a local Goodwill store http://www.goodwill.ab.ca. It was a great find to come across a full set in perfect condition which will be used all year long. I like using black candles for a moody setting but anything works. And my best table design hack would be the runner, which believe it or not is none other than parchment paper!! You heard correct, and my guests have never guessed it either. Best thing is that it can be reused over and over. I’ve also styled tables with two parchment runners along the sides under the place settings, instead of using it in the middle.
With all of the different textures here, the overall look is warm, cozy and inviting. The natural feel continues into the place settings with a simple linen napkin draped over the centre of the plates, wood handled flatware from http://www.simons.ca, and round straw placemats. To tie in with the centrepiece, I finished it off by placing a stem of the crab apples. For that extra personal touch, you could customize by writing your guest’s name on each leaf. And there you have an elegant, neutral harvest table setting that is both casual and budget friendly.
