My absolute favourite thing to do in preparation for summer is to set up my herb garden! So I was very excited to try out the Cricut Joy machine and create some pretty labels. There’s nothing like having fresh herbs on hand for all of your dishes and drinks! We have a small city yard so I need to strategize our limited space. A tall display works great like the baker’s rack I use. I plant them in terracotta pots in all different shapes and sizes and the best part is the patina created over time. I like trying new herbs out each year but my must haves include: mint, oregano, thyme, basil, parsley, chives, rosemary, dill and sage.
For the labels I wanted to create something simple and classic so I could reuse them year after year. I purchased durable plant markers made of etched zinc with a large nameplate. Now the fun part, time to make the labels! TheCricut Joy is a smart cutting and writing machine making it easy to personalize just about anything. I like that this machine is small, super easy to use and works on 50+ materials from, paper, iron-on, cardstock, vinyl, etc. For this project I also used the Cricut Joy grip mat, smart vinyl, transfer tape, and starter tool set.
These DIY herb labels are so fun and easy to make, pick any size and style, all you have to do is install the Cricut app.
Let’s get started!
First step is to choose your material, I went with white vinyl, perfect for outdoor labels. Next is setting up your design and choosing your font and text size, I used Bradley Hand for a casual handwritten look. The app walks you through each step from beginning to end.
Once your labels have finished printing, you simply remove any excess vinyl, as in the middle sticker part of letters ‘e’ or ‘o’. Once that’s done, use transfer tape to pick up the label in one piece. Remove the backing off the original vinyl and move the label onto the container or garden marker in this case. The Cricut starter tool setreally helped finish everything off seamlessly which includes the spatula, weeder, and scraper.
Here they are on the nameplates, they turned out amazing!
This was such a fun project that not only looks pretty but is functional too. I’ve been on a major organization kick this year so thisCricut Joyis the perfect solution to helping me streamline around the house and add labels anywhere I can lol.
Here’s a look at the final result!
I am so pleased with how this turned out and can’t wait to try other projects and designs, the creative possibilities are endless!!
